Omaha is getting ready to welcome the world of women’s volleyball.
The 2027 FIVB Women’s Volleyball World Cup is coming to Omaha, Nebraska, with CHI Health Center Omaha selected as one of the American host venues for the prestigious international tournament. Omaha will host pool play and round-of-16 matches as part of the 32-nation competition taking place across the United States and Canada.
“It’s only fitting that we bring the 2027 FIVB Women’s Volleyball World Cup to the city that launched women’s professional volleyball in the United States in the modern era,” said MECA President and CEO Adam Straight. “We’re so excited to bring some of the best talent from across the globe to Omaha and provide the passionate and dedicated volleyball fans of Nebraska with a week of elite volleyball matches.”
“We are thrilled to bring this world-class event to Omaha and give athletes and fans from around the world the opportunity to experience our city,” said Emily Winckler, Executive Director of the Omaha Sports Commission. “Hosting events of this caliber showcases what Omaha can do on the national and international sports stage and reinforces our city’s reputation as a leading sports destination. We are proud to continue building on Omaha’s reputation as a place where sporting events can thrive.”
The 2027 FIVB Women’s Volleyball World Cup will take place August 20 through September 5, 2027, bringing some of the world’s top national volleyball teams to North America. Along with Omaha, American host cities include Orlando, Florida, and Anaheim, California. Anaheim’s Honda Center will host the quarterfinals, semifinals and final matches.
World-Class Volleyball Comes to Omaha
As an official host venue, CHI Health Center Omaha will play a key role in bringing this global sporting event to Omaha fans. The host cities and venues were selected based on factors including passionate fan bases, world-class facilities, local and government support, and the ability to introduce volleyball to new fans throughout North America.
The tournament marks the first time the FIVB Women’s World Cup will be staged in North America and is expected to further elevate the profile of women’s volleyball across the continent.
A Major International Sporting Event
The 2027 tournament will feature 32 national teams competing for the Women’s Volleyball World Cup title. The new tournament will also serve as an Olympic qualifier for the LA28 Games, with the top three national teams that have not already qualified earning Olympic berths.
For Omaha, hosting the FIVB Women’s Volleyball World Cup adds another international sporting event to the city’s calendar and gives local fans an opportunity to experience elite women’s volleyball on a global stage.
